Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

I'm at a digital history conference today at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
This is a lovely site for a conference.
Even with the icky drippy weather the place is pretty.

I could go on and on about how fascinating this conference is.
No really, it is.
Lots of librarians (or as it is pronounced here lie-berry-ins), archivists, museum curators, state and county recordkeepers, and historians that are digitizing and making accessible images, maps, oral histories, movies, books and records.
All from Texas.

This is hugely exciting.
The keynote was given by a doctor in history from the University of North Texas.
Great speech.
All about how he is using digital objects to teach history.
How our efforts to digitize materials helps him do his job.

How the things that we put online are providing students with historical information that they would never have had access to before.

And the place is pretty too.
Can't really knock that.

Stone buildings
Fountains
Ponds
Springs
Tranquil places to sit and enjoy

And then there is this.
The gift shop
Be still my heart.

They have earrings
Lots and lot of earrings

Adorable vintage style aprons.
I think I'm in love.

And more earrings.
My visa card is going to hate me.

love,
M

  3. Beautiful photos - I want to go there!

Digital history? I was imagining that to be 'The history of all things digital' and thinking 'this will be a short conference.'

Thank you for explaining. And it's true - the things I've been able to access on the internet are just amazing, including very old photos and records. It's a fantastic tool.

  6. Maureen, never fear. The earrings were purchased. The Captain was ignored.

Mama-face, I hadn't thought of a giveaway but that is doable. Let me think about it.
