Some of this and some of that but none of that other thing

That title means absolutely nothing. Just in case you were wondering. Because I'm sure you were...or not.

Let's do a little Random Thoughts Tuesday since I've really got nothing but random floating around in my head.

JR and I are on vacation this week. We have almost no plans. We are going to hang around the house, read, watch too much Bones and Castle reruns, paint a bit, clean the house and maybe do a little closet organization.

  • We hosted some friends for Memorial Day. Nancy, Mark and Thomas came over to play in the pool, have dinner and watch Looney Tunes cartoons. Okay, to be fair, Thomas played in the pool and watched Looney Tunes cartoons. Nancy, Mark and JR had Copper River salmon for dinner. Copper River is JR's favorite kind of salmon though he has been known to debase himself with King. Just for information sake, I poached the salmon in butter and white wine. It was topped with lemon and onion slices. They all seemed to like it. I served it with lemon rice and roasted asparagus. After dinner we all ate the mulberry cobbler that Nancy made Blue Bell vanilla ice cream. It was wonderful.

  • I've been working out everyday for the last 2 weeks. I don't mean walking the dog around the park working out. I mean kicking my ass working out. I do power yoga, circuit training, cardio, and weight training. I like to mix it up so it doesn't get boring. When I first started out I was burning about 300 extra calories a day. I've since worked up to burning about 600 to 700 calories a day. I've kept my diet moderate, lower carbs and calories but not crazy low. Nothing kills weight loss faster than shutting down your metabolism by not eating enough. Unless you are talking about menopause because that bitch shuts down the metabolism so fast it leave skid marks.  I'd like to say that I've lost a whole lot of weight and look slimmer but that isn't quite true. I've lost a little weight but I've put on a bunch of muscle. My endurance is much better. I can get on the elliptical and knock out 5 miles in less than an hour. My underarms don't jiggle as much, that menopausal belly that seems to have taken up residence around my middle is packing up and moving on, my butt is working its way up from the back of my knees to where it belongs. My clothes are starting to fit better and I have much less muffin top. I say that is a win and worth continuing.

  • JR and I are planning to drive to the Shiner Brewery tomorrow. He likes their beer and I like driving back roads.  I should have lots of pictures of old houses, buildings and other quirky things. I promise to share.

  • I got a mushroom growing kit for Mother's day that I am dying to start. It is a little crazy how exciting I am about this thing. I'll keep you posted about the progress.

So that is a sum up of a couple of things. Nothing real important. Nothing real exciting. Nothing real mind blowing.

Be sure to check out other Random Thoughts Tuesday out at Stacy's place.

  1. Beloved will be extremely interested in your mushroom enterprise. I think that's on his garden bucket list.

  2. TeeHee - Thomas has an interesting extended name... ;) Sounds like yours and JR's week is going to be a fabulous relaxing one! Good for you kicking up your workout routine - that's my problem, boredom. And distraction by shiny objects. I need to kick into gear, though, this extra weight ain't gonna lose itself. ;) That salmon sounds HEAVENLY! And I'm curious about the mushroom kit - if it works great, I might have to find one! :) I can't wait to see pics from your drive tomorrow, too! :)
