This is Tripper

These are the many behaviors of Tripper.

Did you know that March 1st was the first day of the Salem witch trial?

Per the Library of Congress.....
On March 1, 1692, Salem, Massachusetts authorities interrogated Sarah Good, Sarah Osborne, and an Indian slave, Tituba, to determine if they indeed practiced witchcraft. So began the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Over the following months, more than 150 men and women in and around Salem were jailed on charges of exercising "Certaine Detestable Arts called Witchcrafts & Sorceryes." Nineteen people, including five men, were eventually convicted and hanged on Gallows Hill; and an additional male suspect was pressed to death. Others died in prison. Today they are seen as victims of a tragic mistake.

The Witch: I'm not a witch I'm not a witch!
Sir Bedevere: But you are dressed as one
The Witch: *They* dressed me up like this!
Crowd: We didn't! We didn't...
The Witch: And this isn't my nose. It's a false one.
Sir Bedevere: [lifts up her false nose] Well?
Peasant 1: Well, we did do the nose.
Sir Bedevere: The nose?
Peasant 1: And the hat, but she is a witch!
Crowd: Yeah! Burn her! Burn her!

Birthday Wishes
Today, March 2nd, would have been Dr. Suess' 106th birthday. His first book was Cat in the Hat, 1957. My favorite Horton Hears a Who. My least favorite, Green Eggs and Ham.

Someone near and dear to Texan's hearts was born today in 1793. Sam Houston was the first president of the Republic of Texas.

Any other birthdays to celebrate?

Okay, that's it for me.

Love,
M

  1. Awww, Green Eggs and Ham is my favorite! Followed by Oh The Places You go.... I get choked up every time I read it to one of my kids.

And I love your pie chart of Tripper's behavior. Especially the "licking paws, balls, etc"

  3. Tripper and Scooter have a LOT in common. Except Scooter has no balls to lick.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.

    Love the pie chart.

We have all (it seems) the Dr. Seuss books. Son can finally read them to us. Brings back memories.

  5. And in this day of the 24 hour Cable news cycle and the wonders of the internets, people are still being burned as witches today. Cheers Michelle!!

  12. I used to think 'Green Eggs and Ham' was a great book to help young children gain confidence in their reading skills. Now I realize it was written purely as an instrument of parental torture. I HATE READING THAT BOOK SO MUCH!!

I liked your pie chart again. Tripper sounds like a nice dog (apart from licking people - is it only you he licks? Or is every person as tasty?)

  13. Tripper is the best name ever. He's adorable.

And I really like The Foot Book.

I end up reading it all the time these days and it doesn't drive me insane the 8th time through like half the children's books we own.
