Stephen F Austin brought
300 Americans to Texas to settle a Spanish land grant obtained by his father, Moses Austin. My great, great, great.......grandfather was one of those 300. Rather, ironic that I end up in Texas almost 200 years later.

In addition to English, History is my great love and that's why I dig these these types of posts. Cheers Michele!!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! We haven't been to Texas yet but it's on the list. Would love to spend a weekend in San Antonio.
ReplyDeleteAnother awesome historical post. Did your great great great grandfather remain in the area? Or did he travel onward?
ReplyDeleteHe went back to Missouri where he had another land grant. It wasn't until 100 years later that my great grandfather, my grandfather and great uncle proved up the land again. The is an interesting story to share another time.
ReplyDeleteYou're my favorite librarian.

ReplyDeleteA little bit of home. I agree with Pseudo - you're my favorite librarian.
And I'm sure glad he did since you're here to teach us. Cool log house too!
ReplyDeleteAnd my mother's people came following Austin later. I grew up being PROUD on my TEXAN history!

That is so cool!
ReplyDeleteI love when history has a personal face to it.
I guess everything in Texas is bigger, including your history archives!
ReplyDeleteYour people were the Old 300?! So cool. I grew up in Austin, and LOVE Texas history. My father was a Texas history nut, and we spent an amazing amount of town driving around to historical markers. Thanks for the history.
