I'm getting into shapes these days. Not my own of course, that I consider a lost cause. I'm getting into pictures and painting of shapes that remind me of abstract or modern art. It's hard to describe in words so I'll just show you a couple of pictures.
I'm loving the color and shape of these pots. And, the play of light is interesting. These were just sitting at the garden center. I think the denizens thought I was nuts when I pulled out my cell phone then knelled on the ground to take this photo. Wouldn't it be cool painted in acrylic? Sort of all washed and watery in places.
Check these out! The texture and shape makes me want to run my hands all over them. Does that make me weird? Probably, since I also love running my hands all over really old books and smelling them. There is nothing better than the smell of really old books. I'm talking 150 years plus old. Nothing after 1850, they all smell like acid.
Books like this, old.
Books like this, old.
I once asked my rare books professor how he resisted the urge to come up to the rare books stacks to fondle the books. Yeah, that got a strange look from him.
I am a book fondler.
There I said it.
Love,
M - the fondler of books
And suddenly, this blog became x-rated. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely in the right profession. :-)
I bet you didn't think I might have a fetish. :-)
DeleteWhat ^she^ said. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, those I-phones are good at colour saturation.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like the idea of those pebble pots. But I expect the actuality of them outside a photo would be so busy that they would drive you nuts.
Whatever rocks you shelf girl, go for it. That actually sound dirtier that it was intended, but hayhoo.
Vince, they really aren't but Photoshop Elements is very good at colour saturation.
DeleteI think all of the commenters took this post a lot more dirty than I intended. Oh well, I might get more Google hits out of the deal.
Better to fondle books than well, other things...
ReplyDeleteI would love to see your painting of the coloured pots, if/when you do it. And I love old books too, although I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to 'fondle' any that were older than early 1900's.
ReplyDeleteI love old books, too! We could be co-fondlers! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the nubby pebble pots! Where did you see those? At one of the big box home supply stores? At last count I have 38 pots with stuff in them but would definitely add a pebble pot or two.
ReplyDeleteI saw these are the specialty garden store. I've never seen them at the big box.
DeleteI definitely need to get my hands on some old books now!
ReplyDeleteThose pebbles pots look awesome!! Where did you find them?
ReplyDeleteIm certain your painting of the colorful pots will be amazing!!
found them at the specialty garden store. I've never seen them anywhere else.
DeleteBeautiful pots! Interestingly, Jude has developed a love of the "old book smell". I have a bunch of books from my childhood, and I'll catch him smelling them. I kind of love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat pots! We have nothing cool like it here...there is only Wal Mart and you know what that is like.
