Things that have been chopped,
- onions
- peppers
- green onions
- garlic
- olives (black and green)
- bread (this is more cubed but who's quibbling)
- celery
- carrots
- compound butter (I could live on this stuff)
- herb cream cheese
- cubed bread has been toasted
- Turkey drowning (soaking in brine)
- dressing will be assembled
- mushrooms will be prepped for stuffing with herb cream cheese listed above.
- sweet potatoes will be cooked
- eggs will be boiled
- fresh sage picked and washed for gravy and dressing, some reserved for frying.
- all the rest of the veggies will be prepped.
- lots of sauteing
Things we will be eating tomorrow,
Appetizers:
- herb cream cheese stuffed mushrooms
- Greek style Deviled eggs
- roasted red pepper soup sniffers
Drinks:
- Blood orange sodatini (stopping at the liquor store on the way home for vanilla vodka per Be's suggestion. Not exactly sure how much I'll get done after that. There could possibly be some experimentation going on.)
- wine
Dinner:
- Turkey (yes, I do a turkey for the family. Me? I've got my heart set on an amazing amount of carbs and Deviled eggs)
- cheesy garlic mashed potatoes with sage gravy
- spicy faux sausage dressing
- sweet potatoes (I'm thinking Jan's vanilla ones)
- green beans (not sure how fancy I'll get with these)
- asparagus (not sure how fancy I'll get with these either)
Since we are not big dessert eaters I'm foregoing the pie and going with a fruit, nuts, cheese and dark chocolate plate. And, more wine.
Dr. Boy has to work at 4pm (health care workers rarely get time off for holidays) so we will be eating early. Say around 2pm. I
There's the rundown. I think I've got all the basics covered. There are only 4 adults at our house this year hence the small menu and quantities of each menu item. We should enough for the best part of any huge meal...leftovers!
You all have a great holiday.
Love,
M
PS: for those wondering, everything is vegetarian with the exception of the turkey, of course. This blended family thing will promptly come to an end when Dr. Boy goes off to med school in the fall. JR will have to get his meat at restaurants from then on.
The things we do for our kids.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Michele and JR!!! xoxo
I simply can not imagine a meat free holiday. What would the pilgrims say? Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and props to you for getting so much done in advance. Hopefully your family is thankful that your so organized!
ReplyDeleteBeyond brining the bird, I've done no prep whatsoever. But that's okay because we're going home at noon today so I can get in that kitchen and start rattling those pots and pans.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy, happy Thanksgiving, O My Favorite Librarian!
That last sentence has an ENTIRELY different connotation over on this side.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, have a good meal.
P.S. why are you drawing the liquid out of the bird.
PP.S. is it because you'll deep fry the poor thing.
P PP.S. does anyone bring a plate of nosh out to the reservations for the Indians by way of a thanks. :-)
Not meat free here, definitely doing turkey.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Thanksgiving!
Vince: Hahaha! Well that last sentence could have that same meaning over here but I DIDN'T mean it that way.
ReplyDeleteNot drawing liquid out. When you brine your bird long enough it actually makes it juicier. Don't ask me why. It has something to do with chemistry.
Even though we are in the South I don't fry the turkey. That's dangerous and more work than I'm willing to put into a dish that I don't eat.
I'm sure someone serves up dinner to the Indians but I have to tell you they deserve more than a turkey dinner to make up for their loss.
Stop it! you're making having to go down to my parents even harder. & making me think that xmas can't get here fast enough!
ReplyDeleteYummmm Your menu sounds good. I'm not cooking this year, but will make up for it at Christmas. I do have my snacks and baking done because we will be here for the afternoon and evening....checkers anyone?

Tell me something I don't already know. You left out the part about getting your chopping inspiration from an internet stranger.
ReplyDeleteThats quite an ambitious meal!
ReplyDeleteThe cheesy garlic mashed potatoes with sage gravy. Sound sooooo yummy.
Makes me regret not making a big meal...well just a wee bit. Til we dig into Fry Pizzas anyway.
We will have the fixins on Sat.
