Our sitting place

This weekend went a whole lot better than last weekend. We did a little of this and a little of that and a whole lot of nothing. I got some work done.  I took a nap; both Saturday and Sunday (I know! How cool was that! Why am I using so many exclamation points!). I unpacked a couple of more boxes. You know, I did stuff.
One of the things that JR and I did was a little yard work. Of course, we had to do it before 9am because the heat and humidity after that is just too unbearable.

We transferred some of the herbs from pots into a small garden bed next to the backdoor. They ought to like it there. The soil shouldn't be as hot as the pots. Herbs like to keep their feet cool. I don't blame them. I like my feet cool also. You can see we did plant a couple of tomato plants, a pepper and a trio of zucchini plants in a pot. The zucchini may not like it but I'm pretty sure the tomatoes and the pepper will.

We cleaned up, planted some tropical and some annual plants and laid down some bark in our Sunday morning spot.

No matter where we live we set up a sitting place. Somewhere that JR and I can sit out on weekend mornings or weekday evenings. When it's not too hot that is. Lately it's been too hot but we've got it all ready for when the heat dies down. Which should be in October. Or maybe early November.

What do we do in our sitting place? We drink coffee, tea, cocktails or mimosas. We read. I paint. We talk about the upcoming week or we are quiet. No TV to distract. Just JR and I and the dogs.

Have you got a sitting place?

Love,
M

  1. When in Rome. A mint julep. Or Margarita Cocktail. You should try ice cold Dry Sherry.

  2. Oh you need a post title for the comment to display.

  3. Sorry Vince. I wasn't sure what I was going to title it until I finished the post. Then forgot all about the title. That seems to be the way my mind works today. sigh. It's going to be a long one.

  4. Nick and I have several sitting places out side--we love our front porch, it faces east and is lovely in the evening. I like watching cars go by and we can keep an eye on the boys as they zoom up and down the sidewalk on their bikes. We also like our back deck. We have tiki torches and it's nice to sit out there with or with out company.
Your back yards looks great. I'm a bit jealous, you're getting to plant new stuff. We can't do that as our first freeze is only a few weeks away.

  5. Yup - we call it deck time and can finally do it now that the mosquitos are gone! A nice quiet time that I think everyone needs. Thanks for sharing yours.

  6. I like your sitting place. We don't really have one at our home. The back patio is so full of charcoal remnants from John's repeated bbq-ing, I really need to clean it. And then dust the table. Maybe beat down the chair cushions. Oh, and it's spider season so not until the later fall, really. But the inside is wonderful and clean, I can sit in there. :-)

  7. I'm hoping that once the pool deck is done we'll have one. But yours looks so nice and comfy. Let's face it I don't sit down enough to need a special spot for it...

  8. One of the things that sucks about living on the ground floor here is no sittin' place. I mean, I could just sit outside, but I would have to deal with people walking by right in front of me. Living upstairs would mean sitting on the balcony area watching the world go by.

  9. Yes, HB and I have an outdoor 'sitting place'. But I like yours better - it looks way more relaxing. Ours involves taking fold-up chairs onto the front lawn while watching the kids zoom up and down the footpath on their scooters and bikes. Hope you have more success with your herb garden than I have had so far. "Weeded" by the teenagers once (I'm sure that was intentional), dug up by the neighbor dogs once, trampled by the neighbour children once, and now I am on my Fourth attempt, which is doing okay except Mousie keeps going outside to snack on the garlic chives. mint and parsley.

  10. Nope. We have a dock and I sit there for the summer preferably with a book. I'm looking at your pictures and thinking I need a sitting place back home now though.... :) Great shots!

  11. Ohhhhhh! I love your herb garden, and LOVE your sitting space! We're working on trying to create a sitting place for us, too - have to finish the fence blocking off the annoying neighbors first. ;)

  12. I like it. We only just got our gazebo set up last weekend. Haven't actually sat in it yet, but it looks nice.

  13. I like it! It looks cool. As in shady. We too have a spot, and since it is covered I love to sit out there when it rains.

  14. No. It's been in the works for 5 years now. My 'sitting place' still looks like 'discarded dog run'.
