Go Red for Women

I like to think that I don’t have a lot of soap boxes that I climb up on, though I’m sure that my family will tell you differently, but one that is near and dear to my heart (pun intended) is heart health. Tomorrow February 1st the American Heart Association is kicking-off their National “Go Red for Women” day. You can read about their efforts at http://www.goredforwomen.org/

The dogs and I will be sporting red tomorrow. Nessa will be wearing a lovely silk scarf that I just know will make her look stunning and Tripper will be in a casual red hat. Is red slimming? I would encourage everyone to "Go Red" tomorrow.

Drawing

I typically talk about my dogs but today I thought I would show some of my drawings or at least one of them. I took up drawing in October 2007 as a stress reliever. It hasn't turned out to be much of one. I now lose track to time, put off things that I should be doing in order to draw or paint, and turned my home office into a mess of paper, pastels, watercolours and brushes. Now, my stress level is even worse, bills don't get paid, house doesn't get cleaned, and sometimes I don't get to work on time. Will I give it up? No way!

This is a mission in San Antonio, Texas. I drew it from a picture I took in January 2006 while there for a conference.

Neat Tricks!

It seems that I have been spelling Nessa’s name wrong for the last couple of weeks. I went to my son’s facebook account to grab up a couple of more pictures of the dogs only to find out this fact. Sometime I’ll have to talk about how my son feels about having his Mom as one of his facebook friends.

Sometimes Tripper gets a little carried away. When he does Nessa gives him a quick knock on the head. Her paws are a little bit bigger than 50 cent pieces now. I can’t imagine what they are going to be like in a couple of months. Those little love taps should be able to put Tripper in his place soon.

After a few hours of play time the kids take a nap by the front door. Please bear in mind that this picture shows Tripper’s bad side, tummy up. Looks kind of like a sea lion with big ears.

Here is a photo of the three of us. We were having a little lesson on sitting. Tripper didn’t feel the need to participate, at just over 2 years old, he’s an old hat at the sit game. As you can see he doesn’t need to go down very far to hit the floor. He does have a nice smile though.

Introducing the dogs

I'd like to introduce my dogs. To be perfectly honest one of the dogs belongs to me and the other belongs to my son. Since, we all live in the same house I consider them mine. The first dog is Tripper, my Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Tripper is 2 1/2 years old. You can't tell from this photo but Tripper is a bit over weight, not unusual for a corgi. We don’t like to talk about it in front of him because we don’t want to embarrass him. He’s a very happy dog if somewhat spoiled. My fault entirely.

T
his is Nesa. She is 9 weeks old. She moved in with us about 2 weeks ago. She is a Goldendoodle, half Golden Retriever, half standard Poodle. She is very smart, almost totally housebroke (or we like to think so). She came to us with her own photos. Doesn't she look glamorous. She has been running Tripper's short little legs off. Tripper and Nesa have been having lots of fun playing tug-the-rope. Even though Tripper is about 30 pounds heavier she holds her own.

We also have a long suffering cat who is the real hero of our pet family. He puts up with the dogs using him as a chew toy.
